DCT3 Flasher by Rolis to Back up the Firmware

The Nokia DCT3 Flasher by Rolis backs up the firmware on the phone. Providing your interface circuit and cables are working, the program will extract the firmware from the ROM chip of the phone and store it in a file on a computer. Obviously, it is a good idea to keep a backup copy of the file, just in case something went wrong. The file patching occurs many times and some of the patching may not complete successfully, therefore it is always handy to start with a fresh copy.

There are many firmware files on the Internet, and it is not wise to use any of those, as you have no way of knowing the alterations made to them. You could find your phone making long distance calls to premium rate networks based in China or Russia.

The Nokia DCT3 flasher requires this program installed as it provides a serial communication interface. This must be installed and running on Windows 2000, with the default settings. The default setting worked well and one simply has to press the "Start" button. This program may or may not be required on other operating systems. It also may require configuration, hence please read the instructions that accompany the program.

Basic Checklist and Preparation

1. Use a fully charged Battery
2. Switch the phone OFF
3. Disconnect the charging lead
4. Connect the ribbon cable to the circuit
5. Make sure J1 is in the lower position
6. Connect the parallel port DB25 to PC
7. Start the Nokia DCT3 Flasher program
8. The phone makes a click sound

The Extraction of Firmware

In the "Flash" menu option, choose "Read".

Press the ON switch on the Nokia 3310. This is a short duration press, as we do not want to switch it ON.

Store the image file by providing a name in the prompt window. You have now successfully saved the firmware image file.
